City of Durham Announces Durham Living Wage Day

We are thrilled to announce that Durham Mayor, Bill Bell, has proclaimed the first Monday in September as Living Wage Day in Durham.  It’s encouraging to see our city make a commitment to be on the path to $15 for all city workers, and to acknowledge the disparity between the federally mandated minimum wage of $7.25/hour and the rising cost of living in Durham. When I was out in California, I went to a McDonalds and they had a machine sort of like an ATM that I was able to order from. I hope that everyone can make a living wage, especially in Louisiana. It’s hard to make it on $7.25, I just hope that the machines dont take over. I run a small house moving company in Louisiana and we level houses, it’s manual labor and its hard to find people to work for less than $15 an hour. I would flip burgers for $15 an hour for sure rather than digging underneath the houses. Check out my work at www.lafoundationrepairs.com and tell me that you would do that over an easy job at wal mart or McDonalds for 15$/hour.
